Lahore: TNS Beaconhouse DHA Campus celebrated the International Day of Francophonie on March 18, 2016. Half a billion francophones around the world celebrate this event on March 20 every year.

Francophonie refers to the ensemble of people around the world who speak French. A francophone is a person who speaks French.

Here at TNS, French is compulsory in all classes and we are proud to say that our francophone students wonderfully showcased their language skills during the event.

The Director of the Alliance Française, Monsieur Stéphane Gaillard, was invited as the guest of honour.

The Early Years (EY) commenced the festivities by singing the French national anthem, La Marseillaise. EY students also sang various nursery rhymes to the delight of the audience.

The Primary Years Grade 3 also displayed their dancing skills on the song “Jean Petit qui danse”. Grade 5 brought out the themes of love and peace with a rendition of a famous French song “On écrit sur les murs”. A Grade 5 student also enthralled the audience with a touching poem about freedom.

MYP students of Grade 6 entertained the audience by dancing on a couple of famous French songs whereas a Grade 8 student talked about her recent summer trip to France with the school. Grade 8 also put up a comedy skit. The students were able to learn and deliver all their lines in flawless French!

A translated version of Adèle’s song “Hello” was also sung by Grade 9 girls to the joy of the audience.

DP students recited beautiful poetry by famous French poets. Although they are beginners and have only been studying French for the past 6 months, they performed very well and were highly appreciated by the Director of the Alliance who stood up to applaud them.

The event ended with the singing of both the French and Pakistani national anthems. Mr Clive Barnes and the Director of the Alliance addressed the students and afterwards everyone could enjoy a bake sale of French food items!
