English Language Development Week News Story

Lahore: As part of English Language Development Week at BGTL, the final round of the essay writing competition was held on April 10, 2017. A total of 29 students took part in the final round and wrote various interesting essays at the event, which was organized by Ms Munira Akhtar. First position went to Bazal Ansari from Class IXC-Red, while in second position was Muhammad Umer from Class IXC-brown and in third position, Dayyan Ahmad from Class IXC-White.

A poetry recitation competition was held next, on April 11, 2017. The event organisers were Mr Irfan Hussain and Ms Izza Khan. The judges were Ms Munira Akhtar and Mr Khalid Mehmod. The students recited poems written by famous English poets, including William Wordsworth, John Keats and William Shakespeare. The students recited the poems with clarity and correct intonation in a rhythmic manner, resulting in Haider Gallani from Class IXC-Yellow landing in the first position, Rooshan Khan from Class IXC-Yellow in second position and Shajee Nasir from Class IXC-White in third place.

Next up was the final round of the declamation contest, held on April 13, 2017. Coordinated by Mr Taher Mehmood Tayyab and Mr Usman Younus, the event was a thorough success. In the initial round, three students were selected from each section of Class IX, who then participated in the final round. Fahad Shahbaz of Class IXC-Yellow won the competition, whereas Talal Tayyab of Class IXC-Grey got second position. Muhammad Faiq of Class IXC-Grey stood third in the contest. The event was very well-organised, and the students of Class IX participated with enthusiasm, making it a success.

Following this, the interpretative reading competition was held April 14, 2017. In the final round, 13 students were selected. This event was organised by Mr Khalid Mehmood, while Ms Munira Akhtar and Mr Tahir Mehmood were the judges for the contest. In first place was Omer Amir from Class IXC-White, followed by Awwab Usama from Class IXC-White in second place and Rana Omer from Class IXC-Amber in third place. Musa Bin Haroon from Class IXC-Silver was also awarded a consolation prize for his efforts.

Finally, on the last day of English Language Development Week, the students watched a movie called “Mind your Language”. The movie provided much-needed entertainment and also gave the students insight about the importance of correct communication skills.
