Urdu Declamation Contest News Story

Lahore: The Beaconhouse Defence Campus O Level Section conducted an Urdu Declamation Contest on Friday, April 28, 2017. Students from all sections of Class IX were motivated to participate. Following the initial qualifying round, nine students were shortlisted for the final contest. Students were then given a choice between two topics – a serious one and a humorous one. The serious topic was “School main nazm-o-zabt behtar mustaqbil ki zamanat hai” and the humorous topic was “Zindagi zinda dili ka naam hai, kitabi keerey kia khaak jia kertey hain”. Four students elucidated their thoughts on the serious topic, whereas five spoke on the humorous topic. The criteria for the best speech were content, pronunciation, confidence and the quality of delivery.

The judges for the contest were A Level Headmaster Mr Asim Ali and Class VIII Urdu teacher Ms Abida Chaudhry. In the serious category, Zainab Munir of Class IX-Silver won the runners-up trophy, while Mariam Siddique of Class IX-Silver won the first prize. In the humourous category, Maheen Danish of Class IX-Orange won the runners-up trophy, whereas Hassaan Talat Basra of Class IX-Orange won the first prize. Principal Mrs Semee Shafqat presented prizes and certificates to the winners and participants.
