Lahore: International Literacy Day was celebrated at Beaconhouse Defence Campus on September 8, 2017. Several activities were planned with the purpose of creating awareness about the day including documentary viewing, poster-making, assembly presentations and a speaking session. Students watched a documentary during their Library lessons that displayed the struggle made by Syrian refugee children to get back to school. A brief introduction to the documentary also informed the students of the meaning of literacy and how various countries measure it differently.

In another activity, English teachers conducted poster-making sessions with their students, with the best ones becoming part of an exhibition.

In a special session organised by the Debating Society, students spoke about literacy, particularly the significance of female literacy through speeches and poetry.
